Linux isn’t stable enough to do production work

Linux runs most of the world’s servers. It’s pretty damn stable. One of the reasons it is generally chosen over Windows for servers is specifically because of its stability.

I’m not telling you to use it, mostly just this concept of instability is off.

According to Steam: in the last 3 years there has been 150% growth in Linux users

Steam deck.

The Steam deck is less than 10% of Steam’s linux installs. It identifies as Arch, and that category also includes Arch, which is a popular distro in general. The 150% growth in Linux users is certainly helped by the Steam Deck, but it isn’t the primary growth driver. People are simply using Linux more and more as Linux continues to improve and Windows backslides.

Do not, absolutely do not, hook an OS that is no longer receiving security updates to the internet. Out-of-date machines can get pwned simply by being on a network or loading a website’s ad, no user interaction required. Vulnerabilities are discovered, never patched, and thereafter every script kiddy can get into the old machines with little effort.

And according to Pornhub, in 2024 there was a 41% growth in Linux users.

I don’t think there is a Steam entry for the game, but you can install it with Lutris, which does the setup for you. I don’t actually play the game, so I can’t speak much more about it.

The steam hardware survey shows consistent growth in linux users. As does the Pornhub hardware survey.

And the most “bloatware” are just windows apps

The Windows 11 Pro edition at my work had an entry for Whatsapp in the start menu after a fresh install…

This “Pro” edition had a popup ad for one of Microsoft’s games pushed as a notification. Literally a popup ad for a game coming from the Professional edition of Windows. Something my company paid extra for.

I have 0 “ai integration” on my PC.

I’m constantly playing wack-a-mole with Copilot. It’s even in Notepad by default…

Yeah, there is a reason my home PCs are all Linux Mint.

Looking to buy a new home right now, and every time I see one of those I see a multi-month project in my future to remove all that crap. Because I know they aren’t going to do it themselves…

But, to your question: you can’t just say something has underage nudity when the nudity is of an adult model. It’s not CSAM.

Anyone with half a brain will certainly claim as much. Even if people don’t fully believe it, it will blunt the most serious of social consequences.

Taking secret nude pictures of someone is quite a bit different than…not taking nude pictures of them.

It’s not CSAM to put a picture of someone’s face on an adult model and show it to your friend. It’s certainly sexual harassment, but it isn’t CSAM.

Your best bet is to shoot for one with an AMD Ryzen chip, as they have by-far the best iGPU available.

Getting a dedicated GPU into a mini PC is a pretty big ask, but the above will even do moderate gaming tasks. My laptop with a Ryzen iGPU plays Guild Wars 2 just fine, for example.

A self-built Mini-ITX box might also be up your alley, as those can take proper PCI-E graphics cards.

It’s pretty tempting to know your next offering will sell, even if not a single customer plays it. No need to consider layoffs, etc.

How to run something you don’t trust without performance lost?

A virtual machine is generally your best choice. You build a little box around it and tell it to have fun inside that box.

It doesn’t work well for games (you can do it with games, but it’s generally not worth it), but for smaller programs, it is a very reliable choice with minimal performance impact.

Things with admin privilege have access to everything. If it is only user-privileged, it only has access to what that user was granted access to.

Well, that is fair. Those anti-cheats are in user-land on not-windows. Don’t think I have given admin permissions to any game, including those with Easy Anti-Cheat, etc.

I’m still surprised Microsoft allows those to exist. Particularly for something as mundane as games.
